charles theodore badsworth jr, born on the 11th of july 1973, was named after his grandfather, whose brief time with his active slayer during the 60s brought about her gruesome death. suddenly, 'badsworth' wasn't the illustrious name it once was and charles, as his grandfather's namesake, bore the brunt of the consequences of his grandfather's consequences all throughout his childhood. he was born to upper middle-class parents, both his mother and father were at the council's employ and their simple way of life ('you should never be unprepared for a hasty retreat, son!' his father always said) a the outskirts of london ensured that more money filtered into their rarely touched bank account. charles studied in the london academy of watchers and demonologists. in school, his name was infamous for being 'that watcher who got his slayer killed with an ice pick' or other variations of that moniker--all sounding more ridiculous than the previous one. fortunately, despite his grandfather's widely known failure as a watcher, charles himself turned out to be fairly competent. he was a student of the old ways, having been trained before the council's overhaul in 2003. back then, the watchers just read and drew and memorized so when he took on his first active slayer in 2004, when the wave of slayers suddenly swept up all the available watchers on hand, it was definitely a first. it was a disaster, and two years later, the differences between watcher and slayer almost tore them both apart and may have even caused their deaths. again, another failure for the badsworth name. in 2006, however, charles was once again assigned to a slayer, thouvenel. charles was a disciplinarian of watcher, who accepted no other response but 'yes sir' but after his failure with his first slayer, he learned enough lessons to make his relationship with his current one a lot more tolerable. his slayer is his purpose as a watcher, that has never changed, but with natalie, it was no longer a matter of mere training, but also of companionship and trust.
